Filming and Photography on campus for Hunter College's students

Filming on Campus Application for Students

Students who wish to film on campus in connection with their academic coursework (except for journalism coursework) require the following:

  • Students must complete a Student Application and include faculty approval for coursework or class-related projects. A student must obtain their adviser's consent for student academic projects.
  • Students who seek to film, record sound, or photograph at news events on campus as part of journalism coursework or for student media are not required to complete an application. Faculty advisers, however, must provide the Office of Marketing and Communications with the names of the student journalists.
  • Students who wish to film or photograph on campus for other purposes, including projects intended for commercial distribution, must follow the procedures for commercial filming requests. This requirement does not apply to students using cameras, phones, tablet computers, and similar small, handheld devices to take pictures or shoot a video for personal, non-commercial purposes. However, while such non-commercial filming or photography does not violate this policy, it may be inconsistent with the law, depending on the circumstances and the images used.
